Welcome to The Lens

Posted on July 16, 2018

FotoFocus believes in the importance of photography and lens-based art to our modern world. That’s why we exist: to present it to the public. Everything we do—the Biennials, the Visiting Artist and Lecture Series, the Symposiums, the ongoing support to Presenting Partners, the Patron trips around the country, etc.—is dedicated to supporting lens-based art and those who make it.

But there’s another side: a behind-the-scenes, a story that is not going to be immediately apparent when experiencing the art but will help you appreciate it all the more. Enter The Lens—FotoFocus’s (mostly) new, entirely updated blog.

It will live past this fall, of course, but for now, let’s talk 2018 Biennial. Leading up to and throughout the months of Biennial exhibitions and programming (focused in October, but with shows opening earlier and extending into 2019), The Lens will be your guide. It will let you meet the curators behind some of the major shows. It will expose you to the process. It will give you all the details you need about our new Neighborhood Spotlight weekends—where to be, what to see, and more. It will dig in on the theme of Open Archive, giving you insight before and after you go to see art. It will do more, and above all, we hope it will help you have your best Biennial.

Meanwhile, don’t miss our daily features of Participating Venues on social media, nor their exhibition details on the See Art page of our Biennial site. It’s a big Biennial: Read up to get ready.
