J. Miles Wolf: Red River Gorge, a 50-year Journey
Photographer J. Miles Wolf weaves a personal narrative into his collection of photographs from Red River Gorge. This chronological narrative follows Wolf’s journey over five decades, documenting the evolution of his photographic techniques and equipment—from 35mm to medium and large formats to digital, drones, high dynamic range (HDR), and long exposures—as well as his personal growth.
Red River Gorge, a National Natural Landmark, boasts over 100 natural stone arches, wild rivers, sheer cliffs, and enormous rock houses. These photographs capture the essence of Wolf’s early years of camping and exploring the unique features of the area. Wolf has made annual trips to the Gorge, continually documenting its captivating beauty and geological wonders.
