Romain Mayambi: 100 Years From Here
100 Years From Here contemplates the idea of “home” through the faces and stories of those living in Springfield Township. Photographer Romain Mayambi creates intimate portraits of 20 residents, each representing a five-year age milestone—from a days-old newborn to a centenarian who has witnessed a full century of change. Together, they form a living timeline that reflects a community shaped across generations. Each resident, photographed in a place where they feel a strong personal connection—spaces that evoke memory, belonging, and a sense of home, public or private—shares a memory tied to that exact place, reflecting on why it represents comfort, joy, or a defining moment in their life. These reflections affirm that the feeling of belonging is shaped by experiences and emotions as much as physical space. With artifacts and visual references from the past century integrated throughout, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on continuity, change, and collective memory.
During the Township’s Halloween Hootenanny, families contribute handwritten reflections to a Community Time Capsule to be opened in 2036, Springfield Township’s 250th anniversary.
