Sense of Tomorrow

What kind of future do young people want? In Sense of Tomorrow, gallery fellows investigate this question, exploring possible futures and the collective impulse to understand the unknown. The exhibition presents lens-based works that reflect on beauty, fulfillment, and belonging while imagining what lies ahead. Through photography and image-making, the artists allow viewers to consider how emerging generations see themselves, their communities, and the world they will inherit and shape.

Sense of Tomorrow is led by HATSUE, a Japanese-American photographer and educator from Southwest Ohio whose work explores themes of cultural connection and belonging. For the exhibition, HATSUE leads an eight-week artistic residency at ArtWorks/1001 Colors’ Your Name Here Gallery, which offers free educational programs for aspiring artists ages 16–24. During the residency, HATSUE mentors a diverse group of 10 teens and young adults, selected through an open application process, as they develop original projects that anticipate and respond to the future.
