2026 Biennial
Unorthodocs
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Unorthodocs at the Wexner Center for the Arts is an acclaimed annual film festival dedicated to innovative contemporary nonfiction filmmaking. The festival showcases emerging and established filmmakers, many of whom attend in person for post-screening conversations with audiences. The five-day festival features film screenings, filmmaker talks, and a mid-week reception that brings artists and audiences together.
Each year, Unorthodocs presents a diverse slate of local, regional, national, and international nonfiction films that foreground inventive storytelling, archival discoveries, and underrepresented voices. Over the past nine years, the festival has welcomed filmmakers from around the world—including Brazil, Morocco, Serbia, and South Africa—while also providing an important platform for filmmakers working closer to home.
Together, these perspectives offer Ohio audiences opportunities to engage directly with artists working across a wide range of cultural and geographic contexts. In an era dominated by streaming platforms, Unorthodocs remains a vital space for discovering independent documentary films on the big screen and for experiencing the evolving possibilities of nonfiction cinema.
