Forgetting is Everywhere

Understanding that we are all part of a shared system, Forgetting is Everywhere is a group exhibition over two storefronts, one in a traditional white-box gallery and the other inside of a bookstore café. The featured artists explore human and nonhuman histories, showcasing transformations that are both slow and sudden, unexpected but also predestined. 

In this exhibition, Noah Stephens presents works from his Southern Trees series, photographs of the towering trees of a Northern Virginia plantation. These depictions of ancient trees that witnessed, and sometimes played a role in, a horrific part of our country’s history expose the relationship between humans, nature, and time. Beth Moon travelled the world to photograph Earth’s most ancient living beings, trees, and has documented some as old as 4,000 years. Moon’s series delves into time and survival, celebrating the wonders of nature that have endured throughout the centuries. Also on view is a series of photographs symbolically documenting the gender transformation of artist Guillermo Galindo as a spiritual journey guided by the Book of Hours of Saint Theresa, created in partnership with photographer Tina Gutierrez. Collectively, this exhibition reframes time, illuminating “the long view” as we consider histories, transformations, and the invisible threads that connect us all.

Forgetting is Everywhere is presented at both Swell Art Cafe and Wave Pool.
